I completed this cute little miniature kit I bought a few months back:
The design of the thing was a smidge incoherent. The scene is obviously set in winter. There was supposed to be a sleigh with presents in it as a Christmas decoration on the front lawn, but the house doesn’t seem to be in on the theme. I decided to make it a little more mysterious by scrapping the sleigh out front and simply gluing a tiny train scale figure outside. An elderly woman is on her way to this empty house. Is it her house? Is she visiting but the inhabitants have left? Maybe it’s a ghost house and the lady is real? Or maybe the house is real and she’s a ghost?
I think she’s coming to visit unannounced and has just missed the inhabitants. She’s very sad about it. But you can make up whatever little story you’d like!
Side note about these kits? I have no idea what to do with them when I’m done with them. If you have any ideas, let me know in the comments.
I’m also brewing up a pitcher of limoncello. I’ve never made it before, so I don’t want to share the recipe yet in case it’s gross. I’ll report back next month on the results and share the link to the recipe if it’s worth it.
And! Most excitingly, I am taking an online class to learn how to make abandoned miniature rooms! I’m only two weeks in, but this is what I have so far:
For those interested in sourcing and whatnot: I purchased the room from this etsy seller. I made the wallpaper using scrapbook paper I had on hand and watched this tutorial. My husband used scrap wood to make the floor boards. I glued them down with Art Glitter Glue, and I stained the floor using some random stain my husband had in the basement. 😆
I don’t expect this project to be amazing when I’m done. I know that sounds defeatist, but this kind of thing works best if you are telling a story. I am not doing this to tell a story but to learn several miniature world-building techniques. So, if I pull off some fun effects and learn something to apply to projects later, I’ll be super happy.
If you made it this far, be sure to ❤️ LIKE this post. But, more importantly, feel free to add a comment letting me (and others) know what you made recently.
I found a box in the recycle bin at work - a phone stand came in it. The side of the box has a cartoon of a guy sitting happily in his office - happy because he has this phone stand. I cut the cartoon out and am using it to write humorous captions. I write in pencil so I can erase it and reuse it for another joke, and will do this until I run of of one liner office humor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My son brought me 3 guitar kits that he bought from Harley Benton. He talked me into painting them. Way too much work! But I finished after 6 weeks.
