This week I thought I’d give some updates on rare reels I’ve seen pop up on eBay recently and a few new additions to my collection.
Last month, I wrote a post about the View-Master Expo ‘74 reels and the fact that reel No. 1 is quite rare. You can catch up on that post here to get the full details:
And, as so often happens, just talking about something brings it further into the light!
On June 5 a full set of Expo ‘74 reels, including the impossible-to-find viewer with Reel No. 1, came up as a Buy It Now on eBay and was quickly purchased. My friend scored the whole thing for a great price, and I’m only a little (that is to say terribly) jealous! Congrats to him!
For posterity, here are photos from the listing that show off the viewer still on its original packaging:
What a cool, truly rare item! I’ve never seen this on eBay before. Not even once!
Another recently completed auction I saw was for FT-29, the rarest Christmas reel, sculpted by Joe Liptak, that tells The Night Before Christmas from the little house mouse’s point of view.
It went for $88.65, which is a little more than I paid for mine (though my copy has the original envelope/packaging).
I talked about the history of this reel awhile back, and you can see that post here if you want to know more about it:
In another post I wrote about Loungefly’s fun new View-Master crossbody bag. Full details and link to order here:
Since then, I received the bag and did a quick reaction video, highlighting my favorite things here, on my Instagram account, if you’re interested:
One thing I missed showing in the video? The little advance lever actually moves a little, and that’s pretty adorable. Of course, because the internet is a very small place, one of my own followers is married to the guy who designed this bag! I’m gonna try to get him to tell me all about it. Wish me luck!
Collection News!
I recently added a stack of personal reels from an estate sale to my collection:
And, yes, the one marked “flamethrower” is as good as I’d hoped.
And, finally, I recently scored the Royal Wedding View-Master gift set commemorating the union of Prince Charles and Princess Diana! An iconic moment for GenX girls the world over. Also shared a reel about it if you’re interested in seeing the exclusive Royal Purple viewer that was created just for Princess Diana’s big day!
And that’s all for this week!
Be sure to smash that ❤️ button so I know you’re following along at home!
Aces, as always. Spokane #1 in hanger and FT-29, fantastic items.
The Expo set might be the end of my luck for the year, but I'm happy to have it!
FLAMETHROWER sounds incredible. How are those Knott's and Disneyland personal reels? Those are also highly coveted, especially by people who collect theme park reels (like me).
