Every Friday I send out a real love letter that I’ve transcribed from a stack I bought at the flea market. Missed one? Check the chronological list.

December 13, 1960
Darling Kay,
Just a short note to let you know I’m still here and think about you. Took my Chem. exam tonight. Not bad, not good. Can’t really be sure. It was a rough exam. Dec. 17th seems like years away instead of four days. But four days should pass pretty quickly. If my Physics instructor is a nice guy, he’ll call off our class Saturday and I can leave Friday afternoon.
Instructors in the college of engineering would never do such a thing. Besides, what student engineer would dream of not wanting to go to his classes whenever he had the chance? All of them, probably, but that’s not what our engineering instructors think. A singularly unimaginative lot. No wonder, modern buildings are so straight-lined, efficiently designed, and totally worthless artistically. Enough about engineers.
It’s 1960, and Russ is literally at the apex of mid-century modern design across art, architecture, furniture, graphic design and everything else! I guess we can add mid-century modern to the never-ending list of things Russ Does Not Like. 😆
Well, ROTC tomorrow morning makes it imminent that I get some sleep tonight. Not because ROTC is tiring, but because it’s at 8 o’clock in the morning. Didn’t get much sleep last night studying for my exam.
Good night and sweet dreams, sweetheart. Take real good care of yourself. See you soon.
Love ad infinitum,
Russ
Short but grumpy! Just how I like them. He can take any quick note and it turn it into A Thing He Does Not Like!

A shame we can't catch up with them 10/20/30 years later, haha.
If he is this grumpy in the courting phase, just think what a thrill it will be living with him after marriage! For 40 years!
