Every Friday I send out a real love letter that I’ve transcribed from a stack I bought at the flea market. Missed one? Check the chronological list. Also, I’ve been traveling for work and vacation reasons and I’ll be back to posting additional content soon!

Darling Kay,
Contrary to all outward appearances, I haven’t forgotten you. My normal correspondence problem has arisen.
He regularly puts multiple letters in one envelope to mail.
Monday wasn’t my fault, but today, Tuesday, was, and I hope you will forgive me. Please find letter written Saturday night enclosed. I have been much, much busy the last couple of days.
Sunday, as mentioned in the other letter which you had better read now, and then you’ll be able to follow my blabbering better, — anyway, Sunday, I completed the power supply and mixer, both of which work admirably well — much better than I had expected. I also calibrated my meter which works quite well.
Scintillating.
Monday, besides going to work, I registered for two evening classes at IIT. Philosophy 261 and Psychology 201. I decided against the math because that would involve transferring of credits from Illinois and various other complications, and besides I thought it would be better to take the big subjects — like Math, at one school. Which Psych and Philo. seem to be unusual subjects for an Institute of Technology, IIT has excellent departments in both (which I found out recently from a former graduate) and this will allow me to get some of the Humanities out of the way and I can concentrate more on the others. And, finally, I’m interested in both and think I will enjoy the courses.
This post is sponsored by the Illinois Institute of Technology! Discover. Create. Solve. I mean, it could be if only anyone from that school would pay me.
Registration at IIT is just like registration at Illinois, although on a little smaller scale for the evening classes. Closed sections are prevalent also.
Last year, he was such a smug little shit about registering for classes. But now I think he was just showing off for his new girlfriend and it seems sweeter.
IIT has been in a building boom recently and from the “L” tracks, all one sees are shiny new buildings and charming architecture.
It wasn’t just any building boom. Famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was tasked with designing a completely new campus starting in the 1940s. Construction continued for a couple of decades! You can nerd out about his work at IIT here.
After registering I thought I’d find the building in which I had my classes. (Both meet in the same building.) Psychology, Biology, and Philosophy are all housed in the same general building. And it is incredibly old. It will certainly add color to my night school courses. I think it’s one of the original buildings. It must be. It’s older than Noyes lab or Altgeld Hall (old sections) which I thought was impossible. The building is a great backdrop for a philosophy dept. Things should be interesting. Too bad IIT isn’t in a more suitable neighborhood. Also closer to home. Getting there isn’t bad. But getting home is a problem.
When I registered, I drew out a blank check for $160, which overdrew the account it was written on by $100.
The amount of anxiety check writing used to give me (when I had no money at all and had no idea if I’d be able to cover the costs)! Just reading this makes me break out in a sweat.
The bank should be overjoyed since I haven’t covered it yet, and the possibility looks pretty grim for doing it before Friday.
I miss you terribly. I can’t even work efficiently. I sort of doodle around and accomplish nothing. I want so much to be relatively near you. I may forget your letters, but I don’t forget you. This is going to be a rough semester.
But even though you are 125 miles away, I still feel a certain contentment that I don’t ever want to lose. It’s getting pretty late now, and I have to sign off pretty quick, but remember to take real good care of yourself, sweet dreams, sleep tight and remember I’m right with you all the time.
Love ad infinitum,
Russ
P.S. Don’t forget to let me know right away about the activity tickets so that other arrangements can be made if you can swing it.
Love, Love, Love,
Tiger
You guys, it’s a whole new paradigm, and I love it!
If you made it this far be sure to ❤️ this post!
