Every Friday I send out an email that features photos from the Rupert Leach Collection, snaps taken from the personal View-Master reels of View-Master’s Director of Photography in the 1940s and 50s. These never-before-published images show alternative shots of some commercial View-Master reels and sometimes personal photos of Leach, his wife Poppy, and others.
Last week, we met Leslie Williams and his family. Williams was a key planner of D-Day and we don’t know why Rupert Leach was at the Williams’ home taking photos. This week, we have further proof that Leach himself took the photos.
I reached out to historian and author Philip Hamlyn Williams. He’s also the little boy featured in the photos! He told me his sister has 2D versions of some of these photos. I believe the man on the left took the 2D photos.
And we have more snaps of the Williams’ family.
If you made it this far you should smash that ❤️ button so I know you’re out there and following along. Thanks for reading, friends!
Stereo cameras in a few of the shots, too. It's like, "What a nice day, let's go outside and take some 3D together!" And then we're here 70 years later talking about it.
